Happy Holidays! Dear FLMA Family and Future Family members: Please let me introduce myself. My name is John Garcia, Shihan. I have been elected President of the NEW FLMA. I am writing to you in a time when it is useful to reflect on the past, as well as look forward to the future. For me, it is a great Honor and opportunity to set forth in motion what WILL BE an Honorable and Humble Sport Martial Arts organization in the state of Florida. It is also my Honor and duty to first introduce to you our new Board of Directors.
This New Year promises to be an exciting one for the Florida League of Martial Artists — and for you, our valued member. This letter will address recent and future events within the organization, and how the new Team plans to move forward. For those who have been members, you’re probably saying to yourselves, “We’ve all heard this before”. True. So what is going to be different this time? Well, as you can see from above, we’ve designated a board that is enthusiastic to make a difference in our league. We welcomed back Master Fred LaSala and Renshi Javier “JC” Caban, both of whom are willing to interject positive ideas and excitement back into the FLMA. And, with open arms, have brought in Charlie Lane (Promoter for the Gator Nationals) and his ideas for progression and growth. During our meeting in Orlando, the NEW BOARD and I passed NEW RULES and NEW GUIDELINES for 2010. We decided to promote a true sportsmanlike atmosphere in all FLMA events, thus, implementing new ideas with a traditional twist. We all know that for many years, the Florida League of Martial Artists had been the state’s premier promoter of Sports Martial Arts events. It will be up to the Board elected and myself to regenerate it as such. As a non-profit organization, it is crucial that new and potential members stay informed of the League’s developments and vision. The FLMA cannot and will not grow without the POSITIVE INFLUENCES of our esteemed members. We need to cross the threshold of this upcoming year with a synergistic approach. We need to work together to bring forth a rejuvenation of a proud Martial Arts organization. To establish a UNION of Martial Artists which will be able to stand the test of both good times and bad times? This past year was a difficult year for us, but 2010 needs to be the year of restoring confidence and trust in our existing members and/or potential members. So, in closing, I would like to extend to you a vote of confidence and hope for growth and positive expectations. If at any time a question or situation should arise, do not hesitate in contacting me, or any board member, and we will expedite a resolution that will be beneficial to all. Humbly,
J. Garcia
